What happens if don't pay NYC parking ticket ?

I gave up the car already and have 2 tickets that I tried fighting but "they're always right." anyway, I don't own a home, I'm in public housing, have a joint savings less than 20k with my wife, we have a kid and I make less than 30k with my job and unemployment (I'm employed 3 months out of the year for the summer) What will they do?

You have $20k in the bank, you're welching off the system in public housing, receive unemployment when laid off, and you'd rather find out what they'd do to you instead of just paying a couple of friggin parking tickets? Wow... More

NYC might send that info to a collection agency, which could end up in your credit report, and thus make your credit rating look bad. It is also possible that NYC could send that info to your local DMV, which might end up being a black mark on your record.

I don't know this for a fact, but could the fact that you owe the city money lead to consequences for you as a resident of city housing?

If you live in the State of New York, they can get you on unpaid parking tickets through the income tax system. If you live outside New York, you may be able to gamble that New York will not be able to find you.

They can and will block renewal of your drivers license when that comes due, and will block you from registering another car (so register in your wife's name). Two tickets is too small to turn over to a collection agency unless it gets so old that penalties and interes grow large.
