My mom won't allow me to invest money I WORKED FOR!?
I and sixteen years old and a junior in High School. This summer I got a job and I made over $2000. I know the value of money therefore I want to invest it in a landscaping business. Autumn is on its way and leaves are starting to fall. So I made a business plan to start my own leaf blowing and vacuuming business. I have done all the research on the best commercial equipment and the best deal out there is this machine called the TORO Ultra 235mph for ***ONLY*** $60-80 (A DECENT COMMERCIAL blower/vac would be around $150-200). I have checked the reviews and it is a quality brand and company. So I asked my mom if I could get some money out of MY bank account so I can buy it. She said no because I shouldn't go into a business without a guarantee and she says that I should do it manually first THEN buy it with the profit I made. The whole reason why I buying a vacuum is so I can do my work more professionally and more efficiently. I am not lazy, and if you had an easier more efficient way to do something for a small amount of money wouldn't you do it?? AND I TOLD HER THAT IF I DO IT MANUALLY THEN PEOPLE WILL BEGIN TO THINK "oh I can do this myself". And if they think this I wouldnt get much business I just don't see why a responsible teenager like myself cannot be allowed to take risk with his hard earned money. Its not like I'm buying clothes or pointless materialistic things. I am actually doing something good and positive. AND $60-80 IS NOT ***THAT*** MUCH MONEY, is it? IS MY MOM BEING UNREASONABLE????????

yes i think she is being extremely unreasonable ...you made 2 grand by getting off your butt and doing some hard work ...you earned it.... its YOUR money ...i would keep reminding her of that and the machine is only $60 - $80 ...its not as though you want $600 out to go on a date with a girl you met down the Mall... If you do it manually, people will think "that looks like a sucky job. I would never consider doin all that myself." Do what your mom says. You should be able to earn $80 in one weekend. Then go buy the equipment.

Your mom is not unreasonable, but I can understand your point. If I were you, I would visit Goodwill stores, thrift stores, and pawn shops and look for an electric leaf blower. I bought one at a thrift store for only $13. It's nice, strong, and gets the job done fast. The extension cable may cost you some, but it's... More

This comment "Its not like I'm buying clothes or pointless materialistic things. I am actually doing something good and positive." said it all. I do not understand your mom reason to why she would not help you or assist you with these goals. It seem like that some things with your goals and business, you need to keep... More
