In a nutshell, the Activity Director is responsible for assessing the activity needs of each resident in the facility, which includes a documented assessment. They are responsible for ensuring an Activity program is developed to meet the individual needs of all residents, regardless of whether or not a resident may be fully alert/oriented or perhaps with dementia. In some facilities that Activity Director is also responsible completing the Activities portion on the MDS 3.0 assessment, a federally mandated assessment completed by the nursing home. The MDS 3.0 has various sections, to include cognition, behaviors, mood, nutrition, skin condition, falls, health conditions, etc. This is required to be completed for all residents admitted into a certified CMS nursing home. Each discipline is responsible for completing their various sections.
