Atheists, how do you explain this scientific revelation in the Bible?

The earth has no physical supports. As Job 26:7 says: "God stretches the northern sky over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing." The four pillars signify that the earth is stable in its orbit around the sun. It is not to be taken literally. At that point, atheists still believed the earth was flat.

You don't know anything about what the Bible says. When a Bible believer says something is not to be taken literally, it is because it is CONTRARY to science. The following contains a more complete description of the biblical cosmos, including your reference to Job 26:7... More

Please. You're just "correcting" your interpretation to what scientists have already figured out. Note the quotation marks.

The earth doesn't hang. It doesn't have pillars, either. It says nothing about it orbiting the sun. "At that point, atheists still believed the earth was flat." The Greeks didn't - in fact, they had proven that it was round, with science.

All it's saying is that Earth is in space. Doesn't say anything about orbiting the sun. Not just atheists, everybody believed the earth was flat.

If that's the kind of weak arguments religionists are forced to employ it smacks of desperation.

Too bad it's only after the scientists discovered all that do you people claim that it's to be taken as a metaphor. Before that, it was claimed that the Earth was flat, and that pillars are real. You keep using this word "scientific". I don't think it means what you think it means.

the earth isnt hanging ...and this really is an absurd stretch, to pretend that pillars means stability of orbit (whatever that means..) ...furthermore, the earth was known to be round for a long timeby the ancient greeks, who used knowledge from egypt and sumeria. Only uneducated people thought the earth was flat.

There is a lot of "hidden" facts in the bible. The thing is no one sees them as facts until it is proven by science then Christians go, "oh so that's what it means". So, while the bible may contain interesting facts like that it isn't the real source of knowledge about such things because no one notices it until... More

The bible is wrong, that is how I explain it. First you have to ignore the many other parts of the bible that are blatantly wrong, like there being a dome over the earth with doors to let the rain and snow in (from Genesis). Then there is the matter that the earths orbit in not a perfect circle and it is because of the... More
