How safe is the Temple University Hospital area?

I am considering applying for some RN jobs there and am new to Philadelphia and have heard not so great things about Temple University. I really do not want to be freaked out every time I have to travel to work if I get a job there, but there are so many job openings! Thanks!

It is not in the best neighborhood. But, it is well protected by Philadelphia Police, Temple University Police and Temple Security. It is on main public transit routes that are well lit and heavily traveled (and protected by SEPTA PD). It is busy and lots of people are in and out of the area all of the time. I would see no reason to feel unsafe at the hospital.

Two questions: 1-How long will it take you to get a "Right to Carry Permit" and 2-Can you hold and shoot a 4"- .38 cal Pistol (loaded with Mag Safe Ammo) ?

Now, I don't want you to freak-out but, when you shoot someone with Mag Safe ammo it's going to make a total mess. Just keep in mind, it's you or them... sometimes you have to do what you have to do. There is no talking to a mind on drugs... you simply kill or be killed.

The Health Campus is well-lit, well-maintained and has a large police presence. I have never felt unsafe in that area. I worked for years farther back in the neighborhood outside of Temple's reach, which is an area with a terrible reputation, but even there I never felt unsafe. I would go for it if I were you.

You don't have to live there. Park in the lot of the hospital. Don't walk around the neighborhood alone. You don't have to be freaked out, you just have to be aware of where you and and be alert.

It's safe. A friend of my mother's has been a nurse there for 20 years. Busy ER dept. Car wrecks & Gun shot cases keep them busy trauma wise 24/7. The University police are one of the largest forces in PA. Is it the land of picket fences & cows? No. It's big city teaching hospital. Not much different than any in Chicago, DC, NYC, Etc.

It's not too great. Look at the area right behind the hospital: https://www.google.com/maps?q=3500+North+Broad+Street,+Philadelphia,+PA&hl=en&ll=40.007023,-75.1526&spn=0.009681,0.01929&sll=40.005955,-75.151248&sspn=0.019493,0.038581&hnear=3500+N+Broad+St,+Philadelphia,+Pennsylvania+19140&t=m&z=16&layer=c&cbll=40.006933,-75.152621&panoid=j4ZxOETRB_Tk3AhWF189sw&cbp=12,265,,0,0

Granted, not all the blocks look like that, but it's still not too great.

My family is considering moving to Philadelphia this year (job transfer). We'd need to be within 10-15 minutes from downtown- specifically the UPenn medical centers (university city). Can anyone suggest good neighborhoods or subdivisions? Where do young professionals and young families live? We'd like to purchase a home. OK Thanks for the clarification. Any good neightborhoods near Univeristy City? OR Can anyone suggest a nice place to live that would be within 15 or so minutes from University City (medical center/children's hospital etc.)

I may be taking a job in Philadelphia at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, but I don't know the city at all. What is the area like around the hospital? Is it a safe place to live or does it get a bit sketchy? What are the nice areas around the city that I should look in? Thanks.
