How safe is the Temple University Hospital area?

I am considering applying for some RN jobs there and am new to Philadelphia and have heard not so great things about Temple University. I really do not want to be freaked out every time I have to travel to work if I get a job there, but there are so many job openings! Thanks!

It is not in the best neighborhood. But, it is well protected by Philadelphia Police, Temple University Police and Temple Security. It is on main public transit routes that are well lit and heavily traveled (and protected by SEPTA PD). It is busy and lots of people are in and out of the area all of the time. I would... More

It's safe. A friend of my mother's has been a nurse there for 20 years. Busy ER dept. Car wrecks & Gun shot cases keep them busy trauma wise 24/7. The University police are one of the largest forces in PA. Is it the land of picket fences & cows? No. It's big city teaching hospital. Not much different than any in... More

The Health Campus is well-lit, well-maintained and has a large police presence. I have never felt unsafe in that area. I worked for years farther back in the neighborhood outside of Temple's reach, which is an area with a terrible reputation, but even there I never felt unsafe. I would go for it if I were you.

You don't have to live there. Park in the lot of the hospital. Don't walk around the neighborhood alone. You don't have to be freaked out, you just have to be aware of where you and and be alert.
