Generally, how does a company determine how many years I have left to work before retirement?

I've worked at cracker barrel since I was 16, I'm now 22 and have a bachelors in business management. A year ago I was promoted into management. Next year I will actually be a general manager. How is my retirement most likely going to be determined (cracker barrel, though a restaurant chain, does give employees decent retirement, esp. in management). Will my six years count or will it start over because I'm being promoted?

If you haven't stopped working for them at any time--no broken service--your retirement is figured from day one to the end of your working there. Promotion doesn't reset it. Usually you need to look at how many years till you pension is vested with them. And it should include every year you worked for them. And you should have a handbook on it.
