What are some fun, free and formal things to do in Southern California?

Ok so my girlfriend absolutely loves getting dolled up to go anywhere. So my question is, what are some fun and free things to do in SoCal, which involve formal attire? I'm in between jobs right now so I have very little money.

When I was growing up in LA my mother had very little money to spend on activites, so every now and then we would get dresed up and she would take us up to the revolving restaurant at the top of the Bonaventure Hotel for drinks and an appetizer. It made us feel very high class.

You could go to the Farmer's Market on 3rd and Fairfax, it's near CBS Television City, so if you're lucky you may see some stars at the Farmer's Market. The Farmer's Market isn't fancy, but it's interesting to go there, and it wouldn't be too expensive for lunch.
