How do I reference military service?

Every time I apply to a job or fill out a resume, I would like to add my military service. Of course it is going to ask for a supervisor's name and contact information. Is there a universal reference for military service? I don't understand why they can't just look at my DD214.

Just put down something like this. "USAF 2006-2010 Honorable Discharge. DD214 Available on Request." If they want more than that, then provide them the name and address of your last place of assignment. Commander in care of Personnel, 82 Airborne, Fort Whatever, Texas, 55555.

DD-214 simply verifies that you're a veteran. Other than that, you still need to fill out the resume that stated what you did, and what you accomplish in the military or other jobs. You can use your military supervisors as reference too, just let them know.

Military service normally is at the end of a resume, there you can state what you did, they should know better than to expect contact info. Never showed my 214 to anyone except the Reserve... More
