How can I increse serotonin levels in my body?

I have quite a busy full time job and I'm studying a law degree part time, I sometimes appear to be bi-polar to some people as one day I'm bouncing off the walls hyper as hell and others I'm absolutely knackered/quiet, I'm not bi-polar though the doctor has assured me. I'm generally a happy positive person, I have my ups and downs and occasionally do not have time to go to the gym (although I used to go 4 times a week and I was the happiest I've ever been because of the increase in happy endorphins in the brain) I already know I need to exercise more (mornings before work - no excuse then) avoid energy drinks/caffeine, stop smoking/drinking excessively (I only drink maybe once a week but when I do I go out all night) < Those things I have taken into account as I know these can effect serotonin levels.. I don't feel depressed & I don't need anti-depressants I just have a lul in moods occasionally which can make you feel/appear depressed/tired/irritable... Besides the above which are on my to-do list to change can anyone suggest any foods/drinks/activities that I can eat/avoid to increase/decrease serotonin levels and keep me motivated? I take evening primrose oil to keep me level during menstrual cycles also.... Your advice would be appreciated.....

Yes I am interested in this for my partner, but I am scared that what goes up comes down. There is nothing that can make us feel happy all the time. Its logical to me that if we do anything anything like workout, take st johns wort, fall in love and there will be the equivalent comedown.

Possibly you could write down in a small notebook everything you eat, then when you feel in a low mood, look to see what you have recently eaten, and try to pinpoint if any type of food is causing this. I've heard that people that go on a gluten-free eating pattern generally have better moods once they get off of... More
