The EU oppresses individual accomplishments which is why they "live small."
Why is America’s poverty class richer than the average non-poor European?
The following is from the June 2004 Swedish Timbro Institute study,
http://www.timbro.se/bokhandel/pdf/91756: “Poverty is a highly relative concept. As we saw in the preceding section, for example, 40 per cent of all Swedish households would rank among low-income households in the USA, and an even greater number in the poorer European countries would be classed as low income earnings by the American definition.”
Table 3:3. Dwelling space. Various countries. (Nation/year study taken/living space per person)
Austria/year study taken year 2000/living space per person 406.2 square feet
Belgium/1991/371.4
Denmark/2001/558.0
France/1996/378.8
Finland/2000/392.0

Portugal/1998/279.1
Spain/1991/278.1
Sweden/1997/460.1
UK/1996/381.1
All of Europe/average 395.7
USA poor households/1993/average 438.6
USA all households/1993/average 721.2
“Clearly, then, there are very big differences between the American and European economies. A long period of high growth has made the USA far and away the world’s richest region. For several centuries Europe led the world in terms of prosperity and progress. As little as a hundred years ago, much of the American continent was virgin wilderness. Today, a hundred years later, the USA has completely overtaken Europe to become the unrivalled leader of the world economy. Most Americans have a standard of living which the majority of Europeans will never come any where near. The really prosperous American regions have nearly twice the affluence of Europe. It is worth reminding ourselves what this means. In these regions the average American can get exactly twice as much of everything as the average European. Which goes to show the importance of an economic policy to stimulate growth.”

The EU elites have been promoting “live small” for decades, confirmed by the Timbro Institute. But you can “see” for yourself: “fly” (using Google maps) over EU urban centers and notice how few outlying suburbs with separate houses there are. Oslo, Norway is a perfect illustration -- nothing but giant apartment complexes...like China. And rich elites like Obama are preparing the same future for us:
-
-http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2: See “Obama 2007's Race Speech video”: “No More Highways Out In The Suburbs”
-7/9/12 AP, New York: “Maybe it's the urban dwelling of the future: studio apartments measuring no more than 300 square feet”
How do elites force us into urban areas? They make it too expensive for us to live in the suburbs. They tax our houses into extinction. They increase commuting costs:
Google search Obama’s 2008 election speech: “Under my plan, energy prices would necessarily skyrocket.”
It’s no accident that EU citizens pay $10 for a gallon of gas. It forces them to buy crappy little cars like the Scion or Fusion or forces them to relocate to urban areas where the jobs are -- government jobs: jobs in mass transit, low income housing, more cops, police, social workers, etc., and most importantly, more dependence on government.

Here’s the “live small” healthcare Obama type elites plan for us:
-7/15/12 The Daily Mail, UK: “Thousands could lose their sight as NHS [National Health Service] cuts cataract surgery by a quarter”
-4/6/12
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/articl: According to shocking new research by Macmillan Cancer Support, every year many thousands of older people are routinely denied life-saving NHS treatments because their doctors write them off as too old to treat.
-4/28/12
http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2012/a: “A majority of doctors support measures to deny treatment to smokers and the obese...”
“Dr Ringrose said: ‘Perhaps its time for the NHS to have a realistic discussion with UK taxpayers about what treatments it can continue to cover’."
