What is a normal radius for a non-compete clause?
A friend of mine showed me a non-compete clause his employer asked him to sign. He is a small engine motorcycle mechanic, and the contract states that he cannot get a job at any company that would be competition for his boss within a 250 mile radius. This seems totally excessive. What is a normal range for non-compete clauses and would this even hold up in court? Thanks.

I agree somr people are buzzards, they will go to one place learn a skill and go to a smaller company sell that to advance and the first business is out of money...i know it is a very very small number..but businesses do have the right to protect themselves regardless of what putin...sorry, obama tells you!

Take the job, sign the paper, and then use it in the out house, because that is the only place it will have any use. It is unenforceable.Where is this work shop, in the North Pole with the nearest town 250 miles away.

A contract is a contract. You either sign it or you don't. It doesn't involve normalcy. 2-5 miles is usaaully the deal, but, it depends on variables. The bottom line is still wwhatever the contract states is what you either do, or don't sign, Search yahoo- (Radius clause). It's there.
