How to quit my retail job tomorrow?

I have been working a minimum wage retail job for about 8 months now. My coworkers are great, the store manager is great, but recently I've been sick of a very rude assistant manager, and all the hours and duties of working in a clothing retail store. I was just offered a new job at a better paying, optical retail store and accepted the job. The hardest part is quitting my other job. I feel that I should talk to the store manager first, however she is not in all of the time, and when she is in I am in school. Would it be okay to call her at the store tomorrow to notify her that I'm giving my two weeks, and then give her a written resignation letter the next time I see her? Or what should I do? I feel terrible because I am doing this at the peak of holiday season, but I would rather follow my heart than be trapped in a job I dislike. Thanks.
