Is it possible to be a successful art director in Alabama?

I'm currently a senior in high school and thinking of majoring in advertising to become an art director. I, however, do not live in a huge city or even in the north, for that matter, and do not wish to uproot my life here. I have looked up the prospects and this career and where I live, and I'm not even sure what I've found. http://salaries-by-city.findthedata.org/ says there are only roughly 130 art directors employed in Birmingham. ONLY 130! Most other jobs (according to that site, anyway) have at least 500. So should I not even pursue this? Will I be able to find a job in this field out of college or will I end up at Burger King because I chose a creative career in a place not creatively oriented? I am desperate. Someone help me. Even suggestions on other creative careers that would be better for me would be awesome. Help, help, help! Thank you! @Silly Goose The pay is about $80,000 annually, which I don't think is bad. Honestly... I have no idea what to do with my life.

Shocked that there are even 130 in your city. Have you researched their pay? It might not be worth spending 4 years in college for that low pay. Creative careers - no jobs. No demand by employers. High competition. Low pay.
