What is the average hours of a working nurse?

Here in Northern Florida my mom works in a major hospital that is linked with other hospitals nationally. She says nurses get paid at Memorial Hospitals anywhere $25-37 per hour depending on exp. She also said the most common shifts taken is 12hr shift 3 days in, 4 days off. Well, I'm not planning on staying in Norther Florida region. I been considering Illinois, outskirts of Orlando,FL , etc. Looking for a nice small-medium city where I could own a horse or two while being a nurse and that it won't burn my pocket as much. So what are the possible hourly shits and days I could work? Are there hospitals that can literally let you create you schedule as long as it's in means of min. hours & days? Help, I'm looking into nursing colleges and within a few years after I get my BSN I want to buy a horse or two. Thanks!
