Money Laundering Scam? Immediate Assistance.?

I received this email a few days ago (Me being 18 and unemployed decided to follow it up, got involved up until today)

Job Title: Data Entry Clerk (no experience required)
Location: United Kingdom
Salary: FULL TIME £23K plus bonus; PART-TIME $17K plus bonus

The Candidate:
- Aged older than age 18.
- Candidates MUST be fluent speaking English.
- Team work.
- Demonstrates good attention to detail.

We offer: good basic salary; opportunities to progress and develop; tests and study in UK with a trainer.

HR Manager

The website is: http://presslerfg.com/
Which again I think looks too unprofessional to be an international company

Plus, the unprofessional layout of the e-mails, especially the so-called "Training course" which tells me to transfer money sent to my account to another account, and that money being transferred to another account and so-forth...

The training e-mail I received.

1. Your Training Manager (TM) calls prescribe you into the list of trade-trainees and
to confirm that everything is ready for the start of practical part of the Lesson. (The training
manager will assist you by the phone to report about your skills to organize, calculate,
communicate, count, etc.)
2. Then TM informs when the money for practicing with elementary operations and
your training wage £30 are available on the account that you have specified for training.
(The exact amount can’t be specified at the moment since the training money goes from one
training person to another by a chain: company sends the initial amount to the 1st trainee,
he/she takes £30 as the training wage and sends to the 2nd trainee the rest of the amount
after deduction of the commission for the transaction; the 2nd trainee takes £30 and sends
to the 3rd trainee the rest minus the commission etc.(subject to the number of the trainees
before you in the training chain, the amount that you receive can be different).
3. You call your TM after withdrawing the total amount to receive new details.
First, £30 you should take for yourself as your personal training wage for the lesson
(you may leave it on your account) and the rest of the amount you will use for practicing
with Money Gram and Western Union payment systems. Then you go to the nearest Money
Gram location to perform a transaction using the data you will receive from your personal
manager. Pay attention to the details to be able to compare and learn the differences
between this and other financial services.
The Receipt that you get from the Money Gram managers has to be saved.
5. Your TM will provide your practical results according to all references to your local
supervisor and compose several questions to check your initial professional level. After
you complete the practical part, you will receive theoretical materials. You should answer
questions in the test form and send it back to company’s e-mail address within next 24
hours. Some of the questions will concern your practicing for the first training day, some
of them will be based on your results (to confirm your skills, abilities, etc). The deadline for
sending out the test form: next workday, 6:00 pm.

Any Advice please?
I've already given them all my details, as I am an 18 year old without a Job, and saw this "opportunity" and went for it... so they have my details including my acc. no. and sort code. Stupid, I know but I needed a job.

Hey,

I just received the same email from someone called Anna B. Dowling, The first thing I thought was odd was the way the email was constructed, quite unprofessional, very limited information no greeting or best wishes/regards at the end as you would expect from any respectable employer not very friendly almost quite cold. Anyways like you I'm unemployed and thought ok data entry boring but e********y so I replied and asked for more info and a contact number the second email I received said this;

More detailed information about available position
Please fill out the "Application form" carefully and send the form by email.
Our manager will call you within 1-2 working days.
P.S. The application must be completed in full detail.

Again no greeting or reference to a telephone number I also noticed the second email came from a yahoo email address which to me is a little strange considering they're supposed to be a established business.

So I read the application, saw that they were asking for bank details which is not usual protocol for just applying for a job also the salary £23k FT & £17k for a part time data entry role, the benefits everything they're offering and just the way it was presented with the stamp didn't seem right. Already being wary I decided to google the company and found your post glad I'm did as I now have the answer I suspected, indeed to good to be true.

Unlucky for you that you've given them your details I would do whats already been suggested get on to the bank asap explain whats happened and hopefully they'll be able to stop any money being moved from your account.

I guess its a lesson for the future never give your details before you've attended an interview and even got proof of a signed contract and agreement. always check the company out website, phone no, address etc even go to the building if need be. also they shouldn't need your NI number at application stage I know you prob know all of this now & feel pretty stupid but try not to beat yourself up you're young and these mistakes happen. Hopefully you've caught it in time & once reported you'll be ok

I received the same E-mail and unfortunately I replied and send them my name, address and signature... Not any account information though! So I think I should be fine!! The thing is that I received their email with some others that were job offers from indeed.com so I really got trapped. So the conversation ended with agreement that I will expect a call from the manager tomorrow.. Yeah right!

Do you think I am in a trouble for sending them my name and a file with my signature plus address(not even address, just the town name and postcode and mobile number)?

Seems legit
Answered By: Joe - 11/26/2012
You are correct -- that sound like exact definition of money laundering.

DO NOT give your address for any reason and report this to Action Fraud for investigation http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/

There is no way an 11 day old site registered to a privacy protect service is going to be legit when they claim to have been in business since 1988
http://whois.domaintools.com/presslerfg.com

The address they give, 20 Maiden Lane, is the Wyndham Garden Hotel -- there is no financial company there. You can read about their food service violations here http://www.city-data.com/ny-restaurants/WYNDHAM-GARDEN-HOTEL.html
Here is their business listing http://www.manta.com/c/mtmrky9/wyndham-garden-hotel-financial-district

EDIT -- if you gave your account number and sort code call your bank ASAP and put a freeze on your account if it's not too late and they have not emptied it. Then call Action Fraud but call the bank first and hopefully they have not accessed your account and stolen all of your money. You NEVER give your account details to anyone unless you have gone to their office for a face to face interview, presented proof of identity and your National Insurance number, then after you get a contract you give the account details only to the HR Manager in person so they can set up payroll

This website looks fine to me considering their layout. I mean it has an address, email address and some decent pictures.
The only thing it hasn't got is a telephone number.
The best way to check if a website is a scam is to send an email provided and see what they reply (if they reply). If they won't reply you know it's a scam or if it's going to look like an automated message, again, it's a scam.

The company isn't a big one so they won't be able to afford for a "professional" design. I myself am on a web design course so I have some basic knowledge.

But then again:
"Pressler Finance Group provides merger & acquisition, valuation, and corporate financial advisory services on behalf of corporate clients, investors, financial institutions, attorneys, accountants, and participants in employee benefit plans. Since we opened our office in 1988 we have served over 600 clients of all sizes throughout the world in a broad range of industries...."

600 clients isn't that much, considering they are here from '88 and where is their proof? I mean testimonials would be great...
Plus, the whole money transfering? Wouldn't work for me.

But yea, I would send an email to them and see how it turns out. For now, I would stay clear. I won't give you this whole "why did you give them your details, are you an idiot?!" because of the situation you are in, but it was kind of stupid.

Keep an eye on your bank account and If anything happens I would go to your bank and tell them what's the problem. If the company uses accounts for money laundering, YOU will end up in deep crap. Stupid, I know but that's how it works, here only to inform.

Hope everything turns out for the better anyway.

@Kittysue is right; and 11 days ago? that's tight..scam in a broad daylight.

On the bright side being 18 and without a job cleaning out your account probably was not so profitable for them. Best watch your credit report for the next few years as your identity is probably stolen as well.

Anytime they want you to send money to a stranger via Western Union or Moneygram
Its a scam.
Thats all I had to see, without even reading the rest carefully

The checks wont be any good but you'll pay good money of YOURS to the other person
Its an old scam..and used very very often

Western Union has a big warning
Never wire money to a stranger !
Its like giving someone cash.

PS In the future:
Ask us on this category as we know lots of scams here
Always put "scam" in the question..
Answered By: Kuku Kajoob ♫ - 11/26/2012
100?cam.

There is no job. There is only a scammer trying to steal your hard-earned money.

The next email will be from another of the scammer's fake names and free email addresses pretending to be the "secretary/assistant/accountant" and will demand you accept a fake bank deposit.

Western Union and moneygram do not verify anything on the form the sender fills out, not the name, not the street address, not the country, not even the gender of the receiver, it all means absolutely nothing. The clerk will not bother to check ID and will simply hand off your cash to whomever walks in the door with the MTCN# and question/answer. Neither company will tell the sender who picked up the cash, at what store location or even in what country your money walked out the door. Neither company has any kind of refund policy, money sent is money gone forever.

If you google "fake check cashing job", "fake job bank account Western Union scam", "money mule moneygram scam" or something similar you will find hundreds of posts from victims and near-victims of this type of scam.

So today I went in for an interview and I was going in for the 2nd interview by the head chief executive. now this is where it got weird, so she asked me about my previous jobs and said how much she liked that product over that product. then she started talking about her daughter? an her divorce ...then how she didn't finish college because she was making more money doing what she did for this company ... then she talked about how her teenage daughter is a handful... I just played it cool thinking she was using some sort of psychology thing to trick me into saying something stupid. the interview ended and she seemed happy an I was escorted to the door... now I'm freaking confused? is this normal behavior for an executive? like it felt like she was going to burst into tears at one point and tell me her life problems... is this normal? was she trying to see how I react or something?

Basically- no degree, although I have tried completing one in the past and stopped because of physical and mental health issues which were overwhelming to deal with along with going to classes full time. I'm not stupid and I am quite articulate. I am 23 and have only worked for about two years retail in high school and stopped working to go to university. I worked a few months in 2010 retail after I dropped out but it was only a seasonal position, and the only reason why I have not been able to constantly work is because of mental health issues. I had also tried going back to community college during my free time since i left university in 2008/9 and I had panic attacks while in community college, which made my anxiety worse from then on. Well recently I met a good doctor and he prescribed me some meds that are stabilizing my moods and I feel the best I've felt in years, and I'm ready to work. Thing is, I don't know how to get a job now since I've spent literally years being depressed and anxious doing nothing. I don't really have anything to put on my resume, and I never finished my AA degree either. All I've done is cashiering and although I do the job well and I get promoted easily when I do these jobs because I'm a hard worker and I try to go above and beyond what they ask of me,which is the attitude I have no matter what kind of work I'm doing as long as I'm getting paid. But I hate cashiering because it's too easy and I want a job that is more interesting. Any suggestions for me on how to get a job that is NOT Retail with the type of background I have right now? I also realize I have to go to college to get certain types of jobs, I am talking about what I can do right here right now.

Recently I have overlooked for a project at work and I am unable to accept it why? I am hard working, dedicated, maintain a very professional decorum, very cordial with my colleagues and bosses, give respect to one and all. Still people who take the p***, argue with managers, gossip mongers have been selected for some very responsible positions at work. I seriously can't get my head around it why, why unprofessional people who have no work ethics being selected over me, whereas I have a track record of excellent performance and never shy away from any work my manager ask me to do? I am at my lowest point and not getting hold of my manager to ask the question why not me, why them who can't even bother? I am feeling like a complete loser, giving years to this place, building my performance, trust and this is how I get rewarded. Why my life is so shit, anything I wish for turns to dust?

So I have a nice white button up shirt, business skirt and pants, and a suit jacket. I'm applying for a software development job and I'm very short and can look young so I'm trying to look adult, yet professional. I'm also attractive so I'm trying not to look too sexy. For the career fair I'm thinking of wearing just my nice shirt and a skirt with low heels. My reasoning being it's approachable and attractive without going overboard since the career fair hosts are mostly younger male recent grads. I want to be remembered but not intimidating. For my interviews I was thinking pants, suit jacket (power suit). My reasoning being it'll be older execs and HR people (mostly women) so less sexy with the pants but more powerful with the suit jacket. What do you think?!

I am currently a 1st year irregular college student taking I.T. I transferred schools and my majors never got credited. But it's okay because i am slowly getting the logics in programming in Java. This next semester i am taking a System Analysis and Design(SADSIGN) and i am getting nervous because even though i am pretty good at logics, i am not that good at coding. But since it is a case study, we will be on group, we will be four i think. Project manager, Analyst, Documentation, and the programmer. I am asking what jobs i can get after graduating I.T. because what if i graduated I.T. and still not that good at coding, i am hoping that there will be a jobs that will require less programming. Like Database manager or in Multimedia or in charge of Network. So is there jobs that doesn't require hardcore programming skills?

I'll be taking Programming HTML in 10th grade (I'm in 9th right now). My school offers Java, C++, Programming HTML, Graphic Communications, Robotics, CAD, and Game Design. I am taking courses not only because I want to fulfill credits, but to also test out some things and see what I like. I'm asking this in Careers because I was wondering what careers involve any of these and if they are good jobs. My cousin got me a little interested in computers because she has her Ph.D from University of Maryland, went to UMBC, taught at Carnegie Mellon, worked at IBM, and currently has a job at Microsoft (she works with human- computer interaction) I was curious, what are some good careers in Computer Science? Are these courses good ones to take to see if I like them? How much can you make in Computer Science careers? None of my decisions for the future are concrete and I do not only look at the money in anything so please, no assumptions unless you know me. I just want to have an idea of what to do and I have plenty of time. I love to help people which is why I am looking into medical careers as well. I'll be taking an AIDS research course in a few years and I'm taking a Child Development course in case I really do wish to be a Psychologist some day (Some other careers I have thought about are Hematologist, Dermatologist, Neurosurgeon, attorney, etc. I really would love to cure my parents who have Sickle Cell and Fibromayalgia but I know how Pharmaceutical Companies are.Treatment makes more than cure) t********s to anyone who can answer and help me out (Point gaming is pretty pointless. Two points vs ten? Which is more?) Thank you! I get good grades. Honor roll, honor student, I study hard and I keep to myself a lot so I have a lot of time to study. I'm cyber schooled because of how awful my old school was (kids bullied me. To the point where I could have died but teachers didn't care because my parents aren't friends with the teachers from high school. So, I just had to suffer. They lied to my parents and eventually, we just couldn't take it anymore. I got sick of defending myself against boys anyway. Thank God I'm into Martial Arts). I have been here for 4 going on 5 years and I love it! Peace and quiet....most of the time. I still live in a small town and the bullying just continues. So I have to be completely alone to escape it. Life will be better when I move to Canada. Also what you do is very interesting! Thank you very much! I can only take HTML this upcoming school year. Then the other courses become available throughout the years. I can't choose whether C++ comes before Java. It's not all available right away. It becomes available grade by grade. I heard people say $70,000 wasn't a good salary before and that really confused me. My cousin makes that much and she traveled to Spain, France, Atlanta and California recently. I think it is all interesting. New tech always did intrigue me and my mother. I'm just dipping a toe in first though. Just in case, when I go to college, my freshman year will be undecided to sit in on some more classes. I'll see what I like, this a lot, Thank you! Oh by the way, the C++ course is actually a C++ AND Java course! It's all in one. That's helpful :)
