If I want to have a very hands on engineering job, what types of jobs are out there for me?
I'm currently a Sophomore in a Mechanical engineering major. I really want a hands on job but it seems that most engineering involves being behind a desk. I enjoy working with hand tools, taking things apart, putting them together and I really like to be creative and try different things (like inventing or improving or building something). Are there many Engineering jobs that I would actually be able to be mostly hands on and creative in? And if so what would they be?

99.9 percent of engineering jobs have limited chances for extended periods of " hands on " work. Companies typically hire engineers to use their brains much more than their hands... More

There are field jobs in most engineering disciplines. For example, I'm a bridge engineer, and I get to spend 3-5 weeks during any given year doing bridge inspections - using access equipment, free climbing, repelling, doing non-destructive materials testing, etc... More
