If I want to have a very hands on engineering job, what types of jobs are out there for me?

I'm currently a Sophomore in a Mechanical engineering major. I really want a hands on job but it seems that most engineering involves being behind a desk. I enjoy working with hand tools, taking things apart, putting them together and I really like to be creative and try different things (like inventing or improving or building something). Are there many Engineering jobs that I would actually be able to be mostly hands on and creative in? And if so what would they be?
