vehicle diagnostics? i need to be able to read and wipe fault codes and turn off lights?

i am looking into starting my own business and am stuck on one thing. Vehicle diagnostics is the problem. I have done vehicle diagnostics for hgv in my past job but on a car im not too sure. Where do i start, i understand i need software for my pc, and the relevant cables for the cars. is there anything i can purchase for reading fault codes on ALL cars, or at least the majority. i dont mean the cheap tacky versions either, eg the £20 ebay rubbish. Also is this how you would turn off lights on cars, eg airbag light needs turning off. hope somebody can help

You need a proffessional unit. Those freely available cannot reset airbags etc. Why not ask a garage technician and possibly enrol on course at a college?
