What are the chances of making a living as a writer?

I really enjoy writing stories. Right now, I'm practicing by writing a lot of fanfiction since a lot of people online read it. What would you say the chances are of actually becoming a successful writer? I'm sixteen right now and still need to learn a lot. Thank you!

For novelists, the chances are not good. The majority of writers have to have another job, or a spouse that also earns money. The rate of releasing books (most authors release one book every 2-3 years) and the money earned from each book is not enough to live off of. There are exceptions, obviously. But making a living... Its actually pretty easy, usually its done as a side thing or you would also write for a newspaper and articles in magazines until you get a best seller. It would all depend on how you set yourself up and such. If you couldn't set up well do it on the side.
