What is it like to be a Navy spouse?

My fiancé decided that he's going to join the US Navy last week. He has an appointment next week with the recruiters to get the process started. How long does he have til he goes to boot camp? Now we also already have a 1 year old together so how soon does insurance kick in for our little one? How much and how will income work while he's in boot camp and when he comes out? And last but not least, how is living on base like and where do most navy get stationed at? Please no negative comments.... Just a young stay at home mom trying to get an idea of what our future has in stored for us with him now joining the Navy.
