How to talk to the manager when following up on the job application?

I've been looking for a job since at least last may and had no luck whatsoever. Actually the other day I filled out an application for two open positions at a grocery store ( something I have experience in ) and I went up there to talk to the manager about it and they said that they were fully staffed. Also a restaurant I just went to said that they would call me if they need me and they also had two positions opened. This is beyond head bashing into wall type of crap that I'm going through. I have experience, good customer service skills and I look sharp when at an interview or talking to a manager. What am I missing also I have a great résumé. What should I do to follow up properly?

What you are missing is an opportunity to prove yourself to them. Just wait for that opportunity and if in lucky, you will know what to do because you are a smart guy just no opportunity yet *

It is great to know that you great customer service skills. That can be your greatest asset. All you have to do is call them after 3 days of application or interview to make a follow-up. You may say " I want to inquire the status of my application"
