How do I work in a hospital as a nursing student?

I'm starting nursing school this fall and I currently volunteer at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (Memphis) Emergency Room. I was talking to some of the nurses that work there as well and they informed me that its possible to get a job as a student nurse at most hospitals! Such programs aren't offered at the hospital I currently work at, so nobody could give me very much information other than it's possible to do. can somebody please tell me how this type of job cqn be acquired? I appreciate all answers, but please only reply if you know what you're talking about! I really dont want to go anywhere asking questions about things I heard on the internet that are unheard of. Thanks!

The nurse extern requirement usually varies from one semester to two semesters of clinical courses... More

i would actually call some medical centers or your local hospital and try to set up and interview. Or go in and speak to someone (not at the ER). Since your in school it should be okay i would assume. it doesn't hurt to call :P then if they can't help you they can't put a name to your face or even ask you your name... More
