How many armed guards would the US need in its schools? And who would these people be?

If you have one armed guard, he could turn the gun on the kids. So you need at least 2. If you have 2 then the one could easily kill the first and then shoot. So you need at least 3. Perhaps you'd need 4 or five at least, and that is just for small schools. If a school has 1,000 kids, how many would you need to feel safe. Where would they be? In the school? In each classroom? Outside the school, outside the classrooms? Are people willing to pay for the number of armed guards that would be required, especially as the US is so prone to not wanting to pay for anything. Who would you hire to be a person who literally stands around in a school? How do you prevent nutters from getting jobs? You look at Afghanistan and see all the killings from Afghani soldiers on NATO forces and you have to wonder. QuiteNewHear: How many parents are going to want to give up a lot of their time on a consistent basis to carry guns around school? BlackCar: The US DOES have the resources to do a lot of things, but chooses not to. You know that the UK only just finished paying the US back (with interest) for WW2, the US made a killing over that bit of business. But what on earth does this have to do with the question? Typical tactic, attack people and not dealing with the actual issue at hand. So what do you have to say about the question then?

And there are over 100,000 public schools in the US, so if you allocate $100,000 a year per school, for a couple of armed guards, that comes to $10 billion a year, and that is a conservative estimate.

Hire the parents or relatives of the kids in the school as volunteers/ security guards and sweeten the sacrifice with a stipend/allowance.

Yes, and after we post platoons of armed guards in our schools, our churches, temples and synagogues, our malls, our freeway overpasses, our grocery stores, our sports stadiums, etc. the next step is the world demanding that the screwball U.S. be disarmed of nuclear weapons because no civilized person wants a whacked-... According to the NRA, MORE guns are the answer to these Gun massacres. MORE Guns? Why not turn America into something from Mad Max! I agree 4 guards in shifts which makes at least 12 per school THEN There's everywhere else! Social Events Clubs Campsites Playgrounds Parks Hospitals etc etc

The United States would have more than enough resources to do whatever is necessary to defend its school children if we had not had to defend and pay for defending/rebuilding Britain and Europe three times in the past hundred years.Seriously-the UK has been militarily socially and economically impotent since the days... Terrific question Tom. And well argued. Many valid points raised, difficult to answer any one. But I totally agree with you and what you are trying to say. Get the sheep to look up and think for a change.

We have hundreds of thousands of people in the national guard. Rotate them ...have 2 or 3 work a school for a week. They would only have to do it every 6 months or so (just guessing) and rotating in fresh soldiers every week would keep them alert.

If the NRA was true to its ideals, it would arm the kids. We were given guns and taught to care for them, and to shoot at school in Scotland. There is nothing like that to put you off the d**n things for life.
