I think i got Undersold, New System RMS / Watt Question...?
I bought the following from a big box store who installed these as well this Thanksgiving.... 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan (read mini-van :) Sony 52x4 Deck 6x9 Sony XS-GT6937a 60rms/300w 4ohm rear side 6x9 Kicker KS693 100rms /300w 4 ohm front door feet 5.25 Kicker KS525 45rms/135w 4 ohm front dash AMP: Alpine MRP-F300 50w @4ohm x4 channel the fronts are sharing channels 1&2 and the sonys in the back are getting channel 3 and 4 I'm considering going with another pair of KS693 as im finding out after the fact that comparatively the Kicker 6x9 and Sony are worlds apart in sound quality. Before i go any further, i want to say that the BB guys I'm working with are true gentlemen and have treated me with great respect and customer care, exceptional in that area. So kudos there. However, I'm telling the tech/mgr that i just worry we aren't letting the 100rms speakers be all they can be. Now that they are installed, the 5.25 are VERY present which makes the top end of the spectrum great but the vocals are suffering i feel, I've tried 80's dance cd's like Rick Astley and also Heavy Metal like Yngwie Malmsteen. Both are missing the middle where the vocals should be, where the lead singer should be out front, he's more diminished, i've tried EQ'ing for several hours with different cd's/volumes. turning the DM / Rear bass enhance on/off , sub woofer gain etc. So if im sending 50w to the front channels and the floor and dash speakers are sharing , i feel like under-powering them which in theory is affecting the fullness of the sound/vocals. Am i reaching or am i on the right path here? to hear the mgr/tech explain it they are getting plenty of power if i don't turn them up, my volume goes to 50, i cant go much past 35 though or its just too loud for these 40 year old ears. One concern i have is if the front 45rms and 100rms are sharing channel and i upgrade to a 100w channel or more amp, that is gonna crispy critter my 5.25 on the way to getting my 6x9 sounding full isn't it? and the Sony 60rms is gonna have to be upgraded to the 100w identical kickers to make the 3/4 channels work in a new/upgrade amp eh? Also, they sold me a Amp: Alpine MRP-M500 300w RMS and that is powering a 500rms Alpine SWS-12D4 subwoofer. Those numbers right? So as far as the vocals not being right, EQ issue or is not enough power to the speakers possibly at fault? I feel like i need to go back to best buy tomorrow and tell them i want to upgrade to better amps, what do you think?

Here is another option for you. Rewire the amplifier so that front 4 speakers each have its own channel on your 4 channel amplifier. Then power the rear speakers directly off your stereo. At that point, you can use the amplifiers gain settings to balance the output of the 5.25's and front 6x9's so that the 5.25's are... More
