Producing music with headphones or speakers?

I am relatively new to music production and lately I have been working on this electro song, I am using Ableton Live 8, and I use Shure srh-440 home and studio headphones and generic Logitech speakers for playback. For the most part I have gotten the song to sound good on both the headphones and the speakers, but there are some layers that sound perfect on my headphones but too loud on my speakers and vise-versa. I am also having one sound problem where the sound of a melody sounds completely perfect over the speakers but .... well different with the headphones. I know that I am just using computer speakers and I should get monitoring speakers, but I can't afford them right now. And I heard that sometimes headphones can be to "precise?" with the sound. What would you guys trust for this?
