Are there careers that involve being a pilot and engineering?

I am about to graduate from college with a BE in mechanical engineering. I am looking for a career that could combine engineering and being a pilot. I have looked into bring a pilot for the Air Force but I'm not sure if my eyes are good enough for their standards. And I'm also not sure how good the job market is right now for an entry level civilian pilot. All I know is that I have always had a passion for being a pilot, but I have learned a lot of information in engineering and would like to also be able to use that knowledge in my career! Any suggestions?

I don't know if you could get a job that combines both, but that doesn't mean you couldn't do both. I don't know if they still have the program, but Boeing used to give incentives to their engineers if they wanted to learn to fly. They know a pilot can't design a plane, but know that a plane designer would be better... More

Well, if there is somebody who says you cannot do both of anything, sometimes that is incentive enough. The only limitations placed upon you are those you put on yourself. Your first step in becoming such an employable person would be to get your pilot's license. At some point, you should consider looking into... More

If you want to fly, start gliding planes. It's relatively cheap, it's amazing. And maybe it gets you inspiration and you design a better plane. If you really want a job where you are a pilot and an engineer. I think you'll have to look hard.
