How can I find a job in a hospital without prior work experience?

I'm majoring in Health Science/Pre-Pa, so working in any type of medical setting is required so that I have experience for when I move onto grad school. The only problem is that I keep trying to find positions that I am qualified for (in hospitals, nursing homes, doctor offices), and all the positions I look at require some previous work experience. They're the simplest jobs too such as- medical record clerk, receptionist, etc! It's frustrating. How am I ever going to gain experience when I need experience to be qualified for the position. It's so backwards. And it's not just like that for any medical position. It's like this for a lot of jobs that I tried applying to when I was younger. I'll be almost 19 in a month. I have a high school diploma, I am certainly passionate about helping people, I'm majoring in Pre-Pa for crying out loud! How am I ever going to get my hours in for grad school?

When you say previous work experience do you mean any work or work in a healthcare setting? You can try getting a job at your university clinic, they might be more lenient. Also try talking to family friends who work in a health care, your professors and your doctors, tell them your future plans and see if they know... More

I would suggest you "Volunteer" first for a hospital. And maybe after like a few months of volunteering you can put that experience on your resume and apply for a job afterwards.

Contact the Human Resources department of a hospital, clinic, assisted living facility, etc., and explain what you're seeking. They might have internship programs and certain positions in which you could participate. Good Luck, and don't give up. Medical occupations are and will continue to be in demand.
