Is it worth working in a call centre or as a customer service representative in a bank?

I graduated from university last year and worked at a small company after, couldn't stand it because it was too far away from my house and there was no room for advancement, so I quit. My position was an Administrative Assistant, where I performed accounting duties and answered phones, that sort of thing. Right now I want to find a job at a bigger company, preferably a bank, but the only ones I seem to be qualified for are call centre jobs (the ones where you sit at a desk with a head piece all day), or customer service representative positions (the ones where you sit behind a counter all day and get yelled at by disgruntled customers). I would like to know from anyone who has any experience with these types of jobs whether if it is even worth applying to. I want to know if I stick it out is there any room for advancement within the company, what these jobs are really like, how much the pay is, etc.

I never worked in a bank; however, I have 2 years of experience in the contact centre industry. I always though call centres were not too good to work in. I read and heard bad comments related to wages, stress and horrible environment. Maybe you think I am lucky but I am enjoying a lot working in a call centre... More

Call centers has lots of pressure compare to the bank. However, the chances of getting promoted to a higher position is higher in call center than in a bank. Call center are always hiring while in the bank is seldom.
