Physics deceleration problem?

Let’s pretend that you have a summer internship at NASA and, the first day on the job, your supervisor tells you that NASA is considering letting a test subject take a ride down the zero gravity vacuum chamber and wants you to be that test subject. The good news is that you’ll be given a spacesuit so you can breathe and won’t explode. Also, NASA has good health insurance. The bad news is that the standard deceleration of 65 g at the bottom will probably kill you. NASA is, however, willing to add more Styrofoam beads to the bottom to make your landing less unpleasant. So here’s the problem you need to work out. If you fall at 1 g (accelerate from rest at 9.8 m/s2) from a height H, how much padding P (in meters) do you need so that the magnitude of your deceleration at the end of your fall is S g’s. Assume that the padding can compress to about half of its original thickness and provides a constant deceleration as this happens. Provide an answer for P in terms of g and the variables H and S. You can use your own mass M if you like. After you have a formula, plug in H = 132 m, S = 10 (unpleasant but survivable, most likely) and solve for P.
