How long should one take acting classes if they are inexperienced?

Ok so, I've had an epiphany about wanting to get into acting. This is the 2nd time this is happening, and I'm not sure why. Some people think it's because I'm a teenager(I'm 19) and others say it's a sign. I personally think I am just going through a phase and I'll drop all of this in the few coming weeks. Usually by now, it should be gone, but for the past 4-5 days I have been researching info on acting, acting, and acting. Agencies, casting calls, auditions, what it takes to get them, what classes to take, how long to take them, etc. I don't have that much experience when it comes to this, but I did do theatre in high school. I did one play that was a group project. I never auditioned for any plays or anything because it never came to mind like it has while I've been in college. My sense of direction is all over the place right now, as I wanted to be a doctor or an automotive technician. Thinking about those two careers, they sound boring. For a job, you want something you like to do, something that motivates you, gets you out of bed quick. For the past week or so, that's what acting has been like in my mind. I liked some of the stuff we did in theatre, but I haven't done it in forever. Should I take a few classes here and there and see if I truly like it, then go for auditions and stuff and find an agent, or is this something that I am just going through and just scrap it all? I know you shouldn't let someone tell you what you can't do, but I need a 2nd(or 6th opinion) here. Please help. Sorry for the TL;DR.

Definately start with acting classes - and try auditioning for a community theater production or anything else you can find. Check the film school/program and ask how they find actors for student films and see if that's something you could do. If it's something that your interested in - give it a try... More

Hey same here. I want to be an actor, but have no idea how. I just started researching acting and it looks sooo cool! I have had these same phases where I would just give up on the idea after a few weeks. I think taking some classes and seeing how you like it would be good. I hope you find something that works!
