How does someone EVER obtain employment as a paralegal or even a legal secretary when all jobs want 3-5 years?

experience? My boyfriend wants to peruse a job as a paralegal, but my heart just sinks when I see the amount of experience that employer after employer is asking for. All of the employers I have seen paralegal jobs with want five years experience and even for lower positions like a legal secretary they're still asking for at least three years. I really wonder how my boyfriend is ever going to break into this field. I have mentioned my concerns to him and cited the ads I've seen, but all he says is "okay" he just doesn't seem to get the reality of this situation. So, am I the one who is missing something here? how on earth do people work in this field when the legal secretary jobs want at lest three years and the paralegal jobs want five? Thanks. My boyfriend and I have discussed getting married wanting to save together for a home etc. so you can see my concern when he talks about going to school for a career that wants this much experience in this economy especially.

Schooling counts as experience. Does he have an associates degree? At least?
