What kind of bank account is best for a 16 year old?

Hi, I'm sixteen and I just got a job. I want to do direct deposit in the future and I am interested in opening a bank account. I have been looking at different banks online that are around my area and have decided that I would like to go to PNC. It's not a definite decision yet, just my first choice. I just have a few questions. Do my parents have to have an account with them in order for me to? My parents are going with me to open it up, I'm just not sure of they need to be a member of the bank or not. Also, will I be able to get a debit card when I turn seventeen in three months? At sixteen, you are only able to get an ATM card. How old do you have to be to have a debit card. I'm pretty responsible so I don't think I will use up all my money and my parents are okay with it. I'm just not sure when I will be able to get one. Thank you for any help!

If you have a credit union in your area, check them out ... credit unions are like banks, but are really owned by everyone who is a member of the credit union. Usually you will get a better deal in terms of interest, and incentives. PNC is a large bank ... and I would personally stay away from a large bank.

When I was 16, I went to Bank of America and they gave me an account that's pretty good. They give me a debit card on the spot, and I later got my real one. They haven't charged me fees if you follow the schedule of fees... More
