Where to move in the Fort Lauderdale and Miami area?

Got a job offer for a company in the Fort Lauderdale and Miami area making about $130K a year. I will be traveling between 4 different locations, 2 in both cities. So, leaving in one city vs the other doesn't really matter much to me. My wife and I along with my 2 year old (and our dog) will be moving to the area. Never been in either of these cities. So... I am looking for a 'nice' town/city that has a great school system, is safe, good shopping areas where I do not have to worry about my family while I am working. Also would like a nice yard for my dog... or if we get a condo a dog park within walking distance. Any suggestions are appreciated. I will be living in a hotel for about a month before my family moves down... so I will have time to check these places out before I look to buy. BUT... I don't want to waste my time, since I only have a month to look around. Thanks for the help!!

Miami is for the rich and the poor. Do Lauderdale. Go with a buyer's realtor.

The area you are describing in sometimes referred to as miami dade country and broward county. Broward houses Fort Lauderdale and it's suburbs. I would choose that since it's more northern and easier to access other cities north of there. In Broward check out Cooper City, western Davie, Weston. To get to Miami on... More
