Why is special education in high demand?

All educators are in high demand, but from what I have heard special education teaching jobs are easy to come by because many school districts has a difficult time hiring certified teachers in that field. For example: I looked on the "madison metropolitan school district's" website and all I saw was special education teaching positions as job openings. Another big example is that the university I applied to last year had a special education degree program. It had a 100% employment rate for it's previous graduate within three months of obtaining the degree for 15 years in a row compared to all the other degree program, as the elementary education program had a 95% employment rate. Why do you think special education is in high demand? I am currently a freshman at a university in this field and has gained a lot of knowledge in this field so far due to my learning disabilities. If my grammar is horrible, please excuse it. I have learning disabilities as well.

It's in high demand because not very many people want to do special education. It can be pretty stressful, and there's a TON of extra work that goes with it--paperwork, IEPs, etc.
