What is a better job Accounting or Banking ?

I am going to university next year and I have no idea what to study. (Currently I am studying business at college). I am a good student and I am sure that with my grades I am able to enter any course I like but I do not know what to choose. I am thinking between the two options mentioned in the title, Accounting or Banking. The thing is that I have seen how many problems most of my family have since they hardly have any education and aren't getting paid well, I would like to do as best as I can at school and get the best possible job to live a good life and help out my family. After a small research I've found pros and cons of both these professions and they are: Accounting: +Many vacancies = easy to find a job (if you have a qualification of course) + Decent wages which are from 20k to 50k - I've read that you cannot advance in your career when being an accountant as you will always be an accountant whereas in banking (one of my mums friends) has gone from being a bank teller (I think that's what it's called. Basically she was at the counter updating peoples details and working with withdrawals and deposits) and moved onto being the branches manager and then after some time she became the manager of 4 branches of the bank earning £80k per year if I'm not mistaken. - I heard the job is REALLY boring but I do like maths so I don't think it would be too big of a problem Banking: + I've heard they get paid well (£70k+) + You can advance from cashier to branch manager to multiple branch manager etc. (I don't know what's next) - I do not know what qualifications are needed. What should I study to become a good banker and have a chance to become a manager? - I don't know if there are vacancies as a banker - Are there ? - I have read here on yahoo answers that bank managers don't get paid as much as I thought. People are saying that they get paid £35k. So anyway, I wanted to ask you guys what should I choose. I want to be able to earn close to £100k a year some day in the future as I know that I am able to get the required qualifications as I like studying and I am really intelligent. I want to know what I would need to study at university to have a chance of becoming a bank manager some day. I want to know how much I can earn both in accounting and banking. Which is a better job to choose in terms of earnings ? Are there vacancies in banking ? What other jobs that involve a lot of paperwork, financial work etc. could I go into in order to earn £100k a year. It might sound as if I think earning 100 grand a year is as easy as learning how do ride a bicycle but if the saying "knowledge is power" is really true then I think i am 100% capable of achieving my goal. THIS IS A UK QUESTION AND I WOULD ONLY LIKE PEOPLE FROM THE UK TO ANSWER IT AS ANSWERS FROM USA ETC. WILL BE PRETTY MUCH USELESS. THANK YOU !!!
