HELP! How do de-scalers remove limescale in coffee machines?

For Part 1 of my Chemistry coursework on de-scaling coffee machines, I am required to do research on how de-scalers remove limescale. I've been looking on the internet, but I cannot find any good scientific explanations on how they do it. I also have to research the advantages and disadvantages of using ethanoic acid, citric acid, and sulfamic acid for de-scaling coffee machines, but so far, I have not found a lot of specific information on it. I would be really grateful if you guys could give me some links to good websites which answer these questions. I don't really want to resort to having to use Wikipedia. Thank you in advance!
