What engineering carrier is right for me?

I have just finished my year 10 work experience at a engineering company and it made me think about my future carrier. I am looking for a role in defense engineering. I like to design; problem solving; how things work; and creating things. If you could give me an idea of what the job is like, where i could work, what grades i need, wage, and finally if I should go for an apprenticeship or uni? also I am from the UK. I am from England and wish to work in the UK. However any information is helpful. I was supposed to say *career* btw.
