I chose the wrong job offer?

I am miserable. I had two job offers and I know realize I screwed up and chose the wrong one. I had a temp to hire job that offered me a lot of money to work 90 days as a temp, then they said they'd hire me. They were very impressed with me, I was doing a good job but at the same time I started this temp job I got a direct hire offer that I accepted instead (so I could go ahead and get benefits and have something permanent). The temp to hire job said they wanted to hire me but I had to do the 90 day temp thing - then after 90 days they'd hire me on full time. I said if they wanted me so badly, why couldn't they just go ahead and directly hire me. Being a county/government job they said this was their policy. As I needed benefits and job security - I had to take the permanent job offer and now I am regretting it. I am turning 51. I am experienced and an "older" mature worker. I am working with girls in their early 30's who talk like valley girls, spend their lunch hours deciding on which Louis Vuitton bag they will by next, they greet each other with "Hey boo, you look sewww cute today, I love that skirt, you are just adorable!" yet they totally ignore me and don't even say hello. I am attractive but I am "over 50" which I have noticed I am treated much differently in the workplace. I am aging and I know I can't compete with these 30 something girls who are cute, they drive their little luxury cars and spend their waking hours talking cutesy to each other about what shoes or bags they are going to buy next. I am so not into these girls but have to smile and get along. I am widowed, lost my entire family, raised my son single handedly and have worked my rear off in the jobs I've had and I am very experienced. I wish I had stuck with my temp job where I was respected and worked with mature, professional people older than me who truly liked me. Instead I took this direct hire position where I am a total outcast ingored by my boss and a bunch of mean girls. I want to quit because it hurts my feelings. They ignore me and whenever I talk they interrupt and exclude me - on purpose. My boss is 50 and she instigates it - rather than appreciate the fact I am older, mature, have more experience than these young girls - she laughs it up with them and talks down to me in front of them. I cannot stand my boss and I've only worked with her a couple of weeks now. I can't go back to my temp job because they've already replaced someone who they say is working out well and is very nice. I am so unhappy I chose this job over the temp job. My new boss told me today "Don't you think those girls are just the cutest things eva?". I feel like she is intentionally trying to hurt my feelings. They all chat and compliment each other and ooh and ahh over each other and ignore me - on purpose. I ignore it and don't show that it bothers me - but it does. I'm 50 years old - why am I being subjected to high school girl behavior by my 50 year old boss who is playing favorites with the 30 year old mean girls? They all were bragging about "I drive a Lexus girl - what do you drive?" "Oh I drive a BMW it's the cutest car you have to see it". I feel like my boss is trying to be the popular one by sucking up to these young girls as she blatantly lets me know she's above me and I better play by her rules or I'm the odd girl out. She's already called me a b***h (claims she's joking), threatens me with "you better be nice to me" and is very derrogatory when she talks to me. The company I work for is great - the higher ups are awesome, I think the company has great benefits and is a good company to work for. I'm just stuck in an office with my boss who is also new and is trying to be the popular leader.... and three other girls who are much younger than me (we all have the same job titles) who are trying to be popular and cute. It's hard enough to have gone thru some tragedies in my life (which I won't share with these people) and to be widowed and have raised a son by myself, and have no immediate family members (they all passed) and then to have to work with stuck up younger girls who are married with huge diamond rings, fancy cars, shoes and purses and I feel like this old lady who doesn't have all the finer things in life. I want to quit because I don't fit in and I've never been treated like this by other girls until I have gotten older. I'm always one who's gotten along with others, remained humble and real, and always offer to help anyone out who needs it. Women are just mean and vicious in the workplace. To give you an example - my boss will know about a meeting that starts - say at 10 a.m. She will inform these other girls (who don't work for her directly) but will forget to inform me. Help.

I would search for a different job - make use of everything on your resume` (it doesn't hurt to embellish, but don't over-do it). There *are* jobs that you can do, that you'll be treated with respect and dignity, and probably pay higher than what you already have. Not all women are mean and vicious - some can be a... More

your current job isnt so bad as you make it out to be. The only problem seems to be that you dont have any colleague of your age which is making you feel left out and you are not trying to get friendly with the other women. I know they may have very different interests, but learn to chat with them. You will find them... More

Try applying for jobs as a librarian, no retarded valley girls would be caught dead reading a book.
