Why do career jobs ask you to fill out an application after you sent in your resume and references?

It's simply a piece of paperwork that they are required (by their own policies) to have in your file. They aren't teasing you with it. The fact that they want it shows you're still being considered for the job.

Some companies want to have your info on record in their format, so they have you fill out their application. Sounds like you're probably real close to getting hired. Good luck.
