Both the cover letter and job application letter seem to be the seem as you are using them to try to make a great impression on a potential employer. Are they the same or different? I would think that the job application letter would be a better bet, what do you all think?

I'm going to college in September so I've been looking for just a part time job to make some extra cash. I'm just applying for jobs in stores really - you know Starbucks, clothes stores, things like that. Is it necessary to write a cover letter for jobs like this? I've got a Starbucks application form and I'm debating on whether or not to write a cover letter with it.

My resume is two pages and I have a short cover letter, so I put the cover letter on top (obviously) but should I staple the resume/cover letter to the job application or just paper clip everything and hand it in? It's a low entry level job (optical technician) but I want to make sure I do it professionally and correctly.

Is it a good idea to turn in a resume and cover letter with my job application, or should I just turn in a cover letter with the application, or just turn in the application by itself? I don't want to annoy the employer but I also want to stand out.

A lot of online jobs ask for resumes but no cover letter. Some jobs do ask for cover letters. But for the ones that don't specifically ask for a cover letter, should I send one anyway?

I can understand making a cover letter for a job interview but why do I have to make one for a job agency? I figure that since they are looking for jobs to put me in, I should only give them my resume. I'm asking because I read that you must give them a cover letter but no one explains why I should. A job employer is understandable since you want to impress them but I don't understand the purpose of a cover letter for a job agency.

I applied at Subway and today a lady called me saying I had a job interview for tomorrow morning. I applied online and they never asked for a resume, but should I bring one in anyways when I go to the interview? And should I bring in a cover letter for it? If so, what types of things should I write on a cover letter for a job I already got an interview for? Thanks!!

I want to post my resume on a website that has postings for numerous jobs that I might be qualified for. This site allows you to post your resume and one cover letter and then you can click on the particular jobs that you want to apply for. All of my previous job applications have been targeted at a particular position --and I worded the cover letters accordingly. How do I write a cover letter that adequately shows my strengths without targeting a particular job/position or employer?

I figure that if I apply to at least 100 jobs then writing cover letter for each job posting will be too much if the letter is personalized for each job.
