What's the criteria to get a promotion at work and earn boss's trust?
I have been working my ass off for a project, given extra hours not to impress anyone, but I do love my job and enjoy a challenge. I follow a professional decorum, am cordial and friendly, yet I have been overlooked for a promotion. If I get carried away because of work and miss my break, my manager calls me and accuses me of manipulating my performance, but if my colleague does the same they get praised for dedication and commitment. But what my colleague can do in 2 days, I can do it in half a day, and the outcome is always better than the rest? I still can't get my head around it, where have I went wrong at work, that I gave 100% and somebody else took the cake?

There is no formula to get a promotion. Generally it all depends upon the reporting Boss. Generally a shrewd Boss takes the work and forgets it. You need to impose your importance before him.
