How are professionals handling menial jobs on their resume?

I am a construction manager by trade, but was hit hard by the economy. For 2 years, I have taken whatever job pays the bills. If anyone else has been in this same position, h*********u addressing these jobs on your resume? Either I have 2 years of terrible positions that are not applicable, or I have a 2 year gap. Help!

What a lot of people do for gaps is create a functional resume. A functional resume doesn't have specific dates of employment. Instead of listing a specific job you list your skills and talk about what experience you utilizing that skill. I didn't do the best job explaining it, but you can google functional resumes and see if it is right for you. Also, monster has a lot of helpful resume articles.

Nothing is worse than huge gaps. Especially 2 year gaps. I'd write down every job you've had. At least that way your potential employer will see that you've been working. I'm sure you can find an opportunity to tell the person the reasons for having those jobs. In this economy, I'd think they'd understand.

Other Career Questions

If you just completley walked out on a job because it was sucking your life away, what would you write on your resume/job application for a new job? No, I don't want to dis my old boss or job, they were all nice people, it was just the job itself that sucked and I really couldn't take one more minute of it. And I don't want to write anything that says that it was a bad place, b/c obviously that would look bad on myself as well. I was just looking for something like "wanted to move on" but I'm not sure if that is acceptable for a job application. Haha. I think comments like "sucking my life away"" mean I am exactly the opposite of a typical 9-5 worker....
