This is a question you really need to prepare for. Find out what other people in the position you are applying for get paid and ask for the same.

If you have worked at a similar job recently, you would tell them what you were making at that position and that you'd like to be in that ballpark. Or you would point out why you would like to see more, if that position carries more responsibility, if the company is a longer/farther commute, if you would have additional childcare expenses, etc. Do the research to know what is a reasonable average salary for that type of position so you know that what you are asking for is likely. You don't want to say you want to make $15/hr if it's a job that averages $10/hr, or ask for 60K when the average salary range is 45-60K.

If you just completley walked out on a job because it was sucking your life away, what would you write on your resume/job application for a new job? No, I don't want to dis my old boss or job, they were all nice people, it was just the job itself that sucked and I really couldn't take one more minute of it. And I don't want to write anything that says that it was a bad place, b/c obviously that would look bad on myself as well. I was just looking for something like "wanted to move on" but I'm not sure if that is acceptable for a job application. Haha. I think comments like "sucking my life away"" mean I am exactly the opposite of a typical 9-5 worker....
