 | Which career choice is the most profitable? Which career can you become/start your own business from. I read that you have to be certified to become a bookkeeper, but how about the others? Can anyone give me as much advice about this as possible. I do not want to waste time at pursuing the wrong career. I am getting confused while researching these careers online.
Thanks sooo much!

 | I have been at my job for 1 year on June 12th. I recently received my Associates Degree in Business Technology and also certified as a Business Computer Specialist. When I was hired, I was currently attending classes, so I did not have the degree or certification at that time. My official title is "Office Manager", but I also do all the accounting (receivable, payable, billing, etc), manage time sheets for 9 employees (everyone in the office, it's a small office), as well as all the standard responsibilities of the title (as described at salary.com). I have greatly improved the billing process (more timely, more accurate, more professional), lowered costs in several areas (office supplies, shipping expenses, etc), decreased the amount of past due accounts/money by a large percentage, streamlined HR process, and several smaller achievements since my hire date of June 12th, 2006. I am thinking of asking for a raise in a few weeks between a $5-10,000 annual increase.
To help you understand more, I report to the owner/s (technically the CEO, since it is legally a corporation) of the company directly. I was told I would be given a review at the 6 month mark to increase salary as necessary (the original offer was for probational purposes...to make sure I was as good as I appeared), but it was never arranged. I was taking on several new responsibilities at that time, and felt it better to wait before pressing the issue. My current salary is 34K, plus bonuses quarterly (but not guaranteed, or even an idea of what it might be). I have over 7 years of experience in this related field, and according to Salary.com my worth is between $48,375-53,382 annually. That does not even take into account that I do other positions responsibilites. I do not even expect that amount (10,000 only brings me to 44K). However, I keep seeing that the raises are only 5?ncreases usually. . One more thing, I was hired through an employment agency that charged a ?f my salary.

 | I have a BA in accounting and worked as intern in accounts receivable department in a mid-size firm.
My manager recently offer me a job as collection specialist because they need people on collecting past dues.
However, my questions is, will this collection specialist job help in my future career? None of my managers are CPA, There are accountants that are CPA, but I don't work directly under them. Hence, I can't get the experience I need in order to sit for the CPA exam.
I eventually want to work as an accountant for a multi-corporation.
Should I look for something else such as staff accountant or just take this offer?
What path should I go from here?

 | I have the first job that I am already a part of for about a month. It is an Accounts Receivable Specialist position. I don't like it because it involved not too much thinking, just processing. I make collection calls, follow up with people to find out when the payment is going to be made, etc. I know that the times are bad. however, i feel that i should not sell myself short just because the Economy is suffering. I have another job that i am considering. it is part time (only 2 full days a week). Money is not an issue really for me at this point. I need the experience more than i need the money. The new job is that of an accounting assistant/ receptionist position, where i have to do a combination of both duties. it's in forensic accounting, which is closer to what i want to do in the long run. Also, this job is not permanent. it is indefinite (whatever that means). It is from an Accounting Agency. I can't stand the first job because of the general environment, although i should not be complaining at all about that in this bad economy. I just graduated from university of California with a BA in Econ and math and poli sci minors. i have a few months (6 months ) of experience in finance and 9 months experience in the legal field. My dad says stick with stability. the new position pays only 1 dollar more per hour than the old one (14 dollars/hr.). I just feel that even working a part time job that gives you more direct experience is better than working a full time job that you hate and gives you no relevant experience. Please advise!! i would appreciate any tips/ suggestions.
Also...i feel bad quitting at my first job since my supervisor spent some days training me and he did not get that much of a return from me. i don't want him to get in trouble because of me...

 | I am going to graduate college in a month with a bachelors in accounting. I recently got a job offer for an accounts receivable specialist at a real estate management company. Can anyone tell me if this is a good start for an entry level accountant? I also plan on taking my CPA in a year, and hopefully will get better offers then.
Also, I don't have much real world accounting experience. I used to work at a bank and was a bartender at one point.

 | I earned my Associate of Applied Science degree in Human Resource Management from CSN. Then I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Liberty University.
Currently, I still work in a clerical capacity as an Accounts Receivable Specialist, have 5 years experience in Accounts Payable and Full-Charge Bookkeeping and 7 years of experience in banking and retail.
I am completing my MBA in Finance & Accounting at Regis University and am also thinking about taking the first part of the CPA exam soon.
I am looking at this Master's in Security Analysis and Portfolio Management at Creighton University for after I finish the MBA because it is excellent training for the Chartered Financial Analyst exams.

I would like my next job to be a staff accountant position but ultimately would like to start a financial services company specializing in financial planning, selling stocks, and taxes. I am tired of not making enough money to be able to start a family.

 | What is it like to work as a Financial Analyst or Auditor? How do you start from the bottom and get experience to work in that field. Is it stressful? I only have a Associates of Arts Degree in Business Administration/Accounting.
It is very hard to try to break in somewhere to get experience as an Accounting Clerk. The only accounting job that I finally was able to get was Accounts Receivable Specialist at the age of 35.
And it is not like in school where you learn Accounting Priniciples, recording and posting manually in worksheets then creating financial statements. I did that in school.
But then actually to work in accounts receivable on a job, all I do is mass entry of daily invoices of transactions, and create daily sales reports. The only thing is to know how to use the accounting software. No manual recording or posting. The software does it all.
So out in the real world, companies use accounting software and knowing it is how one can get a job. Many accounting software programs they use are not taught in school. You learn on the job, but where online can you learn those accounting softwares?
Another way to get into Accounting if they want someone with experience is to work for a temporary agency in administrative/clerical assignments such as filing for people in the accounting department. That way you see them actually work and see what they do. Then you can hope that they hire you to work in their accounting department.
