 | I know the CPA license is essential for an accountant to move up the ladder in public accounting firms. But I also noticed that a lot of companies' job postings for "senior accountant" and "accounting manager" positions say that a CPA is required, or is desired. Is it because you need to be a CPA to have a management accounting position in private accounting? Or are these companies simply looking for well-qualified candidates for the position?

 | Is it the accountants job to handle the company financial statements and the validity of it? Or the highest ranking financial officer of some sort?

 | Well, I am in my early 20s and promoted to be an office manager. I have to work with senior accountants, finance officers, and program coordinators who are much older than me (40-60 years old).
Some people can see my ability to manage this office because they saw how hard I have worked to accomplish organizational goals. However, some people think I am just too young and don't deserve the position yet.
Please advice. Thank you :)

 | I am currently sitting in a nowhere position and have a phone interview on Monday. I have a specific range that I am looking for and have relavant experience for this job. However, I am currently in a position that is not paying anywhere close to what I want- I took it as it was close to home for my kids and I had knee surgery and needed time to get to doctor and physical therapy appointments- besides it was a job with benefits. I am looking at a senior accountant/assistant controller position for a large company- I currently sit in a small company as a financial analyst that does nothing more than glorified data entry and administrative crap.
If asked about what I am making now vs. what I am looking for I get the what makes you think that you deserve that type of pay in comparison to what you make now? I do have the experience and education plus I have earned that before- but no one looks past that....
How do you handle this?
I don't really think that lying will help, I tend to try and by as honest as possible. Literally I have done what they advertised and was compensated for that.
As for giving them a range.....It would be a really big range; very unrealistic it would appear that I was asking for quite a bit more and willing to settle for a minimal amount....
As for why I would take this job I'm in, it was portrayed very differently than what has come to be. Since it is a small company, everyone is secretive with what they do for job security purposes. This would include the controller here; thus the reason that I'm wasting my education and playing his assistant. A pay increase was also included with the original offer, but sense cash flow is bad and my boss wants to look good by making his budget, raises are not in the near future for my department- as we are veiwed as pure overhead and really not needed.

 | I've just finished my first year in university for accounting and I want to find a job for the summer doing something in my field. If I were to apply to an accounting firm, how would I go about requesting for a working position? I know I'm not fully skilled yet.. so I just want to do something simple? I'm obviously not trying to apply to be a senior accountant or anything like that.
Any advice would be much appreciated :)

 | I am a freshman in college. I am thinking about going into the field of accounting. I feel like accountants don't make a very high salary. I know that a salary isn't the only thing I should be worried about, but it is important to me. I want to enjoy my career while also making a decent living. What else can I do with a degree in accounting besides being an actual accountant? (My ideal salary is around $100,000.)

 | Some managers or senior people, they seem to control their time work really tightly? Why? I mean, does it really have to come down to minutes? If not, they will miss their schedule or deadline or something? Couldn't they utilize just an extra little bit time outside work to finish all that?
