Do you speak English?

Can you walk and talk at the same time?

How about chewing gum?

How much is 2 X 2?

Can you write your name?

Do not worry, if you are not in a coma, you will be picked.

Can you alphabetize? Where would you put such and such document under? Have you had any experience in this? How can you make this job easier? What do you have to offer them to hire you?
Answered By: Sharon S - 5/21/2007
If you can alphabetize, have a keen attention to detail, meticulous in your habits - NO ONE wants a file clerk that puts things in the wrong place. They'll hire you if you're detail oriented.

In addition to the good questions posed above I would also look for your interpersonal skills. Stress, having to deal with coworkers and possibly clients would be good skills/abilities that they would be looking for. They may also look for discretion and how you treat confidential information.

You should also try and research as much as you can about the company, after all if you're filing their information you should have a broad idea what you are filing!

They probably will ask you about previous experience, what software programs you have experience with, and most places will have you take some sort of test to see if you can alphabetize.

If I were designing interview questions for a file clerk, I would ask about your ability to alphabetize lists, such as names, cities, or words. "Ask" in this sense means I would give you a list and have you alphabetize it. And then a second list, which would be much longer, and more difficult.

Second, I would want to find out about your ability to speak and understand ordinary English. Nothing exceptionally complicated, just able to communicate effectively on the level that would be required on the job.

Third, I would want to know about your attendance record. For clerks, just as for everyone else, it is important to come to work on time, every day, and I would want some assurance that you can and will do that. I'd ask how you plan to get to work. If you will take public transportation, or drive your own car.

Getting along with other employees is also relevant, so I would ask about how you have dealt with interpersonal conflicts in the past.

How organized are you.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years.

What is a negative or positive thing about yourself.

I just know DATA ENTRY. OFFICE ASSISTANT? Any others? In other words, what kinds of office or clerk jobs just require the minimum education requirement -- high school diploma?

I would really like to work as an admistrative assistant or file clerk, assistant to a sectratary or similar jobs of that nature. But these are not male jobs right? Isn't there a sterotype for guys working these jobs? I'm straight and would like to work in these postions but dont want to be seen as umm...you know feminine or umm....non-straight. Do the employees see it this way also? i was lying on my bed typing this question in the hot summer afternoon and didn't feel like spelling correctly, sorry : (

I am a 27 yr old female who really enjoys working in an office setting and is desperately seeking a job right now. I have a lot of medical field experience. I have worked in the medical field as a CNA, receptionist, and a filing clerk. I have worked in the medical field for 10 yrs. now. I really would like to continue in the medical field, but if necessary any office job would do for now. Thank you. Please do not answer this question with a NO!!!! It is very rude to answer a sincere question when you have no intention of helping me out. Thanks!
