Not necessarily a full on accountant, but like an accounting clerk or technician, the kind of jobs available if you were to earn an associate's degree in accounting. I'm a musician but I'm looking for a good "day job" and knowing I'm good with numbers and money I think earning some credentials in accounting could be right up my ally. What are the hours like? Is there a lot of full or part time work? What do you do all day during the work day? Thanks!

I have an interview with the position as Accounting Clerk. I only took a course in Financial Accounting, but the interviewer on the phone told me that I will be trained in the job for other accounting background. So the only essential element is proficient in Excel. I have the basic background in Accounting such as data entry, merging cells and stuff. Does anyone know other skills I should study in order to prepare for that interview?

I have never taken a civil service exam so any information about them would be greatly appreciated. For example, length of time for Account Clerk I exam, qualifications, question examples, what to bring/what is provided, types of jobs you can get after passing this specific exam, etc. Thank you in advance. I forgot to mention that I have already been approved to take the exam and have received location information.

I have a bachelor's degree in an unrelated subject but want to work as an accounts payable clerk. I was going to school to get my associates in accounting but that may cost too much money that I don't have. I just want to be a bookkeeper or work in accounts payable. I have alittle experience with quickbooks. Is it possible to get a job? I know that the economy is soo bad right now too.

I have been a cashier for the last 12 years. I’ve been attending college and should get an accounting clerk certificate at the end of this semester. I want to live my old job of 8 years and look for one as an accounting clerk but I’m so afraid of the change. And all of the jobs I have looked at require some experience. Do they usually train a person before they start a new job? Or do they expect you to know what to do and just jump in?
