 | Do they hire admins to be servants so they can bully them round and feel good about themselves by talking down to and treating admins like lowly servants. Assuming they're unintelligent and stupid to feed big about themselves ?
Is that all part of the admin job description ? I thnk that it is ...

 | I am interested in the creative side of these careers, copywriting, advertising etc, I am doing a comprehensive writing diploma, and want to know what else I would need to do in order to be able to pursue a career in these fields? I currently have a part time admin job, but want a more challenging role. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

 | I’ve been working as a web designer in Bristol for a year now and used to live within about 30mins of the place. However, around 6 months ago I had to move to Cardiff (my boyfriend is a student there and I can’t move until he finishes in two years) and now the journey takes nearly 3.5 hours a day and costs almost a quarter of my salary. I’m finding it harder and harder each day and its really getting me down.
The problem is there are hardly any web design jobs in Cardiff- should I quit my job and get a part time admin type job and start freelancing? Or should I just struggle on and get more experience?
The industry I work in is so fussy about experience and I’m scared that if I quit my job I won’t be able to get another job in the future...
It’s a decision that I’m struggling with so much, any advice?

 | I live a couple hours from a big city. Since I'm applying for part-time/office-admin jobs, I wonder if I'm being ignored by employers who would rather just hire someone who lives in the city. So should I mention that I will be moving?

 | I had an interview for a job on Monday morning at 8.30am; all candidates (6) were interviewed that day. The post is a part time admin job @£9 per hour, 25hr per week of own choice in a good location. Due to these good conditions there were over 100 applications in 2 days. The interview went very well, and the pleasant interviewer intimated that all 6 candidates were equally competent; the decision would be down to 'character'. During the interview I was able to establish a common link, in that we had both been to India, and at the end he said I had set a high standard as the first candidate. He also said he would call each candidate either way. I forgot to ask when I would hear back from him.
Today (Wed) I called at 1pm to ask whether a decision had been made, or if there were any further questions he would like to ask me. He seemed pleased that I had called - 'prudent' - and mentioned he had to reschedule one of the interviews. He then told me the decision would be made on Friday and that he would personally call each candidate and call them either way. At the start of the call he seemed pleased to hear from me, but when he wsa answering my question he sounded neutral. To me, it felt like he emphasised 'either way'.
I am studying law just now, but I do have several years of relevant work experience already. I may be competing against older, more experienced people.
Is there anything else I can do to help persuade him to give me the job? Does anyone have an opinion on whether I have got it or not?
Katy - I notice you mentioned I ruined my chances. What would you recommend instead? Why would the gentleman I spoke to say he was impressed - do you think he was not telling the truth? I would be interested to know how you managed to get a job yourself, especially one which allows you to be posting on yahoo answers at 10am.

 | Hi everyone,
I'm a 20 year old girl, working part time.
I had a great little admin job, which I've unfortunately had to leave. At the Christmas do, I had a chat with the Manager, who wants me to come back to the company when I'm ready. He says he'll be completely flexible with my hours, and will give me new, more exciting projects which are related to my interests and chosen career. He's also spoken of giving me a summer position, which could lead to full time employment.
So, what's the problem, I hear you ask. The thing is, the Manager has made no secret of the fact he sees me as more than just his office junior, and has asked me out. I really want to go back to the company, as I love the people and think it'd be a good opportunity, but have no idea how to handle my boss. Is he just helping me in the hope he gets something in return? What would happen if I were to go for a meal with him? We do get on well and I like him.
Any opinions gratefully received!

 | I work a retail job where I have to sell things and I hate it.. I'm constantly being told I'm too quiet. But all I have experience for is retail. What could I do? I am considering becoming a volunteer admin and using the experience to land an admin job? This is not something I want to do for a career, I just want to gain experience and put these skills towards an actual career maybe.

 | I have just got a part time job cleaning some office space for a friend of mine. I have never done a cleaning job before (always office jobs and admin type jobs) and I don't know what I should be cleaning. Obviously, I know how to hoover and clean the washrooms and kitchen, etc, but should I clean desks, phones, computers, etc? If so, should I move stuff to clean them, or just leave everything alone in those areas?

 | It is a part-time admin/receptionist post. Should I accept it and see it as a foot in the door?
Btw, during those 6 months I had a voluntary job and for the past 6 weeks I have been temping in a GP surgery which is crap. Can't wait to get out of there. I suspect my taxes are not being paid because they refuse to give me a payslip.
I'm not unemployed. I'm in a crappy temp job.

 | New Zealand, work from home data entry/admin type jobs. Legitimate and good.
Now also bear in mind that i live in Wellington, New Zealand and most sites i've tried dont offer services/jobs these ways. I do data entry at a huge company at the moment, however they dont offer work from home jobs. I'm starting to get desperate so any help would very much be appreciated.

 | She been working in this telesales admin job for 3 years and became a team leader, but I always felt she took it waaaaaaaaaaay to seriously. Anyway, she quit to try out something new, and today tells me she thinks she regrets it already as she couldn't stop crying (or even talk) on her final day at work last Friday, and today she left her house to meet her old workmates for lunch! Is she right in the head? Have anyone heard of something like this? Is it normal?

 | I've just got my GCSE results ( 11A*s and 1A) and I'm looking for a job for weekends around school hours. I've done voluntary/work experience in schools and admin before, so I'd quite like some paid work, that's not too dull. Any ideas?
