Recently, I completed a legal secretarial course because I wanted to add depth to my career, however, despite having 15 years secretarial experience most of the legal secretarial jobs advertised are asking for experienced legal secretaries. Help.

I have few years long customer service experience, worked for best customer service employers. However, my aim is to move away from retail, where I've been working for years, to non-retail environment, either reception or admin, where my customer service skills could be advantageous and useful. The problem is that when I apply for receptionist/secretarial job, I don't get these sort of jobs, because I am told that I don't have any reception/secretarial experience, and when I apply for admin/admin assistance where the customer service is also mentioned as required skill, I don't get the job either due to, again, lack of experience in administration. So either way, my customer service alone does not attract any jobs (except in retail...) so please any tips how to get out of this situation and move away from retail? What do I need to write in my CV/covering letters to attract employers? Just to add, I tried several times getting unpaid work experience or internship but with no results. Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Secretarial jobs are so abundant and I know a lot about it, but the job made me suicidal because I hate it so much. Should I just hold my chin up and do it anyway? I need a job. Good point Annie!

I applied for a secretarial job online. It didn't state the salary, but I have been contacted by email and offered an interview for the job and they have stated the salary within the email. Unfortunately this is way too low for my age and expertise - it is more a junior salary and I am 41 years of age! How can I put this across politely? It is a £6,000 drop in salary per year which I cannot possibly afford to drop down to. I can just about manage on what I earn now.

Is it like a secretarial job with the normal clerical duties or does it include more. I know every job is different, but I would just like the basic/general duties. Thanks!

Please help. I feel like I dressed too casually at my last secretarial job. I wore black, brown, or gray dress pants and a somewhat dressy shirt or sweater every day. I know the obvious answer is a suit jacket and skirt and whatnot, but it always felt odd dressing the same as my superiors... In fact, wearing a suit would be MORE formal than my superiors.... Any help? I also didn't wear any makeup and I just left my hair down, afraid of being too extravagant or too formal.

Sloth is a sin. I want to improve my typing skills so I could get a secretarial job, but I seem to have become so set in my ways and in my routine and my circumstances, that I am apprehensive about changing my lifestyle. Please, no judging or abusive criticism. If you ignore this request, then don't bother to respond to this question. Thank you.

I have a BA in Communications--in '95. But I have taken low, secretarial type jobs for most of my life. I keep being told I can get a better job. I am working as a legal assistant. It feels like I'm stuck in this world. Is it low self-esteem, lack of motivation?

I've applied online for a secretarial job at one of our local hospitals. I really want the position so I have decided to also send a resume and cover letter to the human resources office. What other things can I add to make myself stand out above the crowd? Any answers are appreciated. Thanks and have a wonderful day! : )

I'm currently trying to decide what I want to do with my life. I've always enjoyed typing, organizing, filing and all that jazz, so a secretarial job sounds like it'd be good for me. But I'm curious as to how much I would get payed doing a job like that. If you can give me a range from lowest possible, like an inexperienced person just getting into the field, to highest possible, like a top of the line legal secretary, it would be greatly appreciated ^^ Let's say this is in Seattle, Washington

I share a secretarial job with my boss' wife (meaning I cover her when she goes on holiday - she goes often alone without my boss, as she visits family and his job is very stressful and he needs to be here more often). When she is away, he cracks jokes and is just more relaxed. As soon as his wife is back on the scene, he gets all anal again and can be quite snappy with me. Why the change?
