Word Processor Hospital Job Questions & Answers

Sort by:
I plan to semi-retire in about 5 years and leave Utah. Don't care for it here. I know I won't be able to find a "real" job at the age of 62 but I am thinking of becoming a professional temp. I have a college degree in broadcast journalism (which I've never used). I have worked as a receptionist, word processor, data entry keyer and I've done some warehouse work and have worked in a cafeteria. Beyond my college degree I have studied office computers and medical terminology. Besides office work what else could a semi-retiree with a useless BA degree do? Should I take some classes to update my computer skills? Or is that not needed.

My mom has a lot of physical and mental problems and basically stopped taking care of things at our house. We had a nanny who was helping out with my 7 month old sister and the other 2 older kids, but my mom didn't like her so she was let go. We had a house cleaning service come by to help out twice a week because this is a really big, very old house and it's hard to clean with 4 kids and 4 pets. But she didn't like them either and was paranoid about "strangers" being in the house so they were let go. She didn't think my other sister's afterschool program had good values, so she canceled it. She didn't pick up any of the slack after all that was canceled. She still wanted the house to be in perfect shape, but never did the work herself. My dad and I decided that I would go to online school through our county back in the US (we are from Chicago but moved to Australia in 08 for his work) so that I could help out more around the house. But taking care of the kids, the pets, the laundry, the house and everything else was seriously a full-time job. I no longer take gymnastics, I rarely ever get to see my friends anymore, and I basically live like an old hermit housewife and I'm 17. I talked to him about it all and he offered to pay me $500 a week (Australian money). That might seem like an awful lot, but considering that he had been paying WAY more than that for the cleaners, nanny, afterschool program it's a fair price. Plus he is no longer paying for my school tuition. We'd both been super happy about the arrangement. My mom is SO resentful. She said that I undermined her to my dad. But I didn't. He sees what's going on in our house. She now has made things worse for me. She used to make my brother and 10 year old sister clean up after themselves at breakfast, take their laundry downstairs, and clean up their own rooms and the bathroom they share. But now she's said that it's my job to clean up. She left me with the baby who is seriously like crying all the time because of colic and I can't get her to stop and went off to volunteer. I Skype for an hour a day with my main teacher back in the US, and the past 2 days it's been almost impossible because Elle keeps screaming. It's really not like I had WANTED all these jobs. Back in Chicago I was an all-star cheerleader, I was a leader in the student body council, and i was popular. It took me a long time to build up my social life again in Australia and I finally did it. Now all I do is stay inside. I had wanted to just get a part time job here but 1) I don't have the right to work in Australia and 2) they need me too much at the house. I don't know what to do about my mom. I try to be compassionate with her but then she does things that makes it really hard not to hate her. 5 years ago she was in a car accident with me that ruptured a disk in her back and pinched nerves, and while she was in the hospital they found out she had brain cancer. She's had a clean bill of health for a while but she got this post pregnancy depression thing after having my youngest sister last year. She used to be a CPA and make really good money and now she doesn't work. We tried to get her to see a psychiatrist and she won't go. She will be all loving sometimes and then snap and give us really harsh punishments for small things. She's SO hostile about the money. I don't know what to do. I just wanted the money to start saving up and I do think it's fair compensation for all that i do. How can I make her stop being so resentful? I can't get my dad to help because he just left to work on this project in Malaysia for the next 4 weeks. @ Morningstar thanks for your answer but my mom is not dangerous to us. She is not going to just snap and kill us all one day. I think she's been taking a lot of pain medicine for her back and it makes her worse. It would be totally ridiculous to call authorities on her when she's never been abusive or done anything to make us thing she can be. Besides spanking a few times she's never hit any of us. She's just high strung and demanding and sullen sometimes. She's immature. But I would never ever ever claim that she was dangerous. I've never been afraid of her. Im just EXASPERATED with her. All our family lives in Chicago and the surrounding area. We live in a suburb of Sydney, Australia. Nobody can help us. @ Olivia - You totally misunderstood what I meant. I meant that I'm super happy to be making $500 a week. I had been doing that job for months without a single cent of pay or even an allowance. So yeah, now making $2000 a month DOES make me happy. But obviously I still want to be able to have a social life and all. @skc What a pathetic, bullying, moronic answer. I'm making LESS than the nanny was, first of all. Secondly, I don't WANT to have to do any of this, but I also don't want my baby sister to not be taken care of. Before I was basically like Cinderella doing all the housework and never getting any pay or having any life. The pay is pretty minimal, and it's one small thank you from my dad for all that I do to keep our house running. I am very much a member of the family and not a "paid staff." It's really too bad your own parents didn't do a better job with you since you grew up to be someone who fails at basic reading comprehension, and is a heartless, idiotic, POS on the bottom of a shoe.

I am a single mother of a 4 year old little girl. I get no child support from her father, because he has nothing to do with her. I work full-time in a hospital and go to school to hopefully one day become a nurse. In the meantime, I am looking an online general transcriptionist job to provide extra income to pay the bills for me and my daughter. I can type very fast and feel that I would do whatever it took to make extra money. However, I am having a hard time finding a website that is hiring. Can anyone who does this give me any ideas? I am looking for someone like Speak-Write that pays per word you type, but they are not currently taking applications. Any suggestions? I have to do something fast to pay the bills! Thanks

My name is -------, I am an Junior -------student at Bridgewater State College. I have just received a letter from the Financial Aid Office stating that I am not making satisfactory academic progress, meaning that I am not eligible for any financial aid during the 2009-2010 year. I understand your standards for awarding financial help to students as you want to help people that will succeed. For this reason, I would like to explain my self and the reason why you see a collapse in my grades during the spring semester of 2007. First I would like to let you know who I am and why I believe that you should given me the chance to further my education. I came to this country 7 years ago to stay with my daughter’s father’s step mother. This woman rapidly became very abusive towards my daughter an infant at the time. I did not know anyone else in this country. I could not speak English, preventing me from finding a place to stay. My doctor forced me to go to a teen shelter in Brockton to prevent her from hurting my newborn baby. While living in the shelter I went to ----- High school. I studied hard trying to learn English and was told I was required to pass the MCAS to graduate. The class of 2003 was the first class in Massachusetts to be required to pass the MCAS as a graduation requirement. I worked really hard caring for my daughter, trying to learn a new language and studying for the MCAS. I struggled, but I overcame that barrier. After graduating from -------- High School in 2003 still living in a shelter I was told that I was not eligible for any financial help or loans because I did not have a green card in my hands. I started working two jobs that summer and caring for my daughter still a baby with chronic asthma. I saved everything I could and in the fall of 2003 I paid my way in to --------Community College. I was still working two jobs and caring for my baby while I took as many classes as possible at --------community college. My life was not easy, I could barely sleep or rest and I was still able to pass my classes. My daughter gave me the strength necessary to keep me going. In the fall of 2006 I transferred to ------- State College still paying for classes myself. I did ok in the first semester but I was already exhausted working and studying non-stop since 2003 with no time to rest my health declined. This was the beginning of the worse to come. At the end of the fall I started a new relationship, my first relationship since I left my daughter’s father in 2000. He was extremely jealous and quickly became abusive. Having one more pressure in my life made it impossible for me to continue my education. I tried really hard that spring. I was working really hard, trying to manage an abusive relationship and caring for my daughter with no family or friends’ support. I first had to drop the Research Methods political Science class and if you look at the schedule for that class I was taking it during my lunch break Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. I could not do it anymore. I continued to take the ------: Constitutional Convention class which was on my lunch break on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I have worked out a deal with my boss so I could still take some classes and work enough to pay all my expenses. Although I was going through hell I pushed my self to complete it. I was almost there when on the day of the final I was physically abused. I felt physically and mentally destroyed. I did not go to the hospital or the police because I was ashamed of myself. I could not think of anything else other than finding a safe place. I never imagined that this would have came back to hunt me after years. I was so humiliated, never envisioned that I would have to share this with anyone, but this is the only reason why I got an F in that class. You can probably verify from Professor --------that the reason why I received an F is because I never went to complete the final. Considering what happened to me, it took me some time to recover. I could not go back to school after that night mare. Subsequent to that horrible relationship, I started dating my husband a wonderful single father that was going to school at ------. We bought a house together in February of last year and in August we went to Brazil to get married where my family could be part of the most important day of my life which used any savings we had. Today I have a house with a mortgage, two children with childcare expenses, my husband’s school loans and credit cards. I am a program coordinator for a program called ----------. I work to ---------in Brockton. I have a nice job, but I still want to finish my education. With our finances I can’t pay for school without getting loans and that is why for the first time in my life I have applied for financial Aid. I feel so close to the finish line. I know you do not have to help me, I know I am not a genius with all (A)s but I am asking you to give me another chance to fulfill my dream. The reaso
