I am starting a consulting agency in which I will only be representing consultants and paying them on a per job basis. Much like the modeling industry, agencies keep anywhere around 20?0?f the total project revenue. My consultancy agency will be working with small businesses and will be providing design, business development, marketing, IT/Computer Help Desk, and retail merchandising consultations. Anyone know of any other rates in the industry?

Here's the prompt: Please tell us about a passion of yours and how you would develop it through the Weissman program. Here's my essay: For several years, it has been my ultimate aspiration become a successful entrepreneur and open my own retail/entertainment business. This passion stems from my desire to create innovation and continuously improve is multiple areas because in owning my own business I would be exposed to these two fundamental aspects every day. I’ve been this pursuit by working in retail, at Ralph Lauren, for over a year now, and this experience will serve as a foundation towards my goal of opening my own business, and in addition allowed me to discover that this vision is truly something I want to achieve. The Wiessman program would make this aspiration much more easily attainable through all aspects of the program, mainly because it would allow me to focus my resources towards solely attaining and striving towards becoming a successful entrepreneur. As a Weissman Scholar, I would have a multitude of resources at my fingertips, such as: intellectual inquiry, leadership and teamwork, extraordinary internships, global citizenship, entrepreneurial spirit, and mentoring and networking. The idea of having all of this available to me is extremely exciting because I view each one as an important aspect in improving as a person and as an entrepreneur. I view myself as somewhat of a raw talent, meaning that I have much more work to do to reach my true potential, and through the aid of guidance of a dedicated faculty advisor (supplied by the Weissman program), I would have the opportunity to overcome any obstacles that the future may present and navigate on the right path. This guidance would also be supplemented by the mentoring and networking part of the program as well. I’ve tried many entrepreneurial explorations, but unfortunately they all came to a halt due to available funds. Many I’ve attempted were related to buying used or damaged merchandise and restoring it to a better condition, and then selling it for a net profit, but every time I haven’t been able to dedicate enough of my own income towards these projects to keep them going. Stipends for independent research provided by the Weissman program would allow me to partake in activities such as the ones previously described, without the factor of insufficient funds, and this opportunity would be confounded by the resourced made available be the entrepreneurial spirit aspect of the program. As a successful entrepreneur, I would have to be able to lead and inspire my team of coworkers to achieve the best results, and further development of this would be fulfilled by the leadership and teamwork experienced as part of the Weissman program. I’ve served several leadership roles during my high school career, such as a three time varsity athletics captain and a one time extracurricular activity captain, but none of these environments are similar to one such as a retail business, and my previous leadership experience could likely be transferred from the high school environment to the business environment with the help of the leadership and teamwork provided by the Weissman program. I believe that experience is one of the most important factors in being successful in the business world, and many schools across the country do a poor job of exposing students to a realistic business environment and provide them valuable experience for their careers after attending a higher institution. This belief is parallel to the extraordinary internships I would participate in as part of the Weissman program because I would be able to develop necessary and valuable skills that I wouldn’t be able to obtain from a business textbook or powerpoint presentation. One of my best skills is absorbing information visually, and by watching first hand how the business world works I would be able to utilize this skill to understand certain aspects of it as well as be able to reproduce similar results and information to those that I witnessed. This also ties into the global opportunities that would be available to me as well because I would be able to witness, understand and learn from other perspectives and strategies on the global market in other parts of the world. In conclusion, the Weissman program would be an incredible opportunity for me to chase my dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur by opening my own retail/entertainment business. More specifically, my vision is to create a business that sells home-oriented retail items, such as televisions and furniture, that also functions as a source of social entertainment, possibly with concerts featuring local musicians and an area for people to relax. This program would serve as a monumental stepping stone in my journey for this ultimate goal, and help me reach the true potential of my vision. Any feedback is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I voted for him because I knew the Republicans would do nothing about Big Business swallowing up everything and making wage slaves of people who would remain poor their whole lives. I have yet to hear of a single way that Obama has proposed to help people like those who work at giant companies who are paid next to nothing and mistreated. I don't work at Wal-Mart, I'm a steamfitter.

I manage a small picture framing business very close to my home. I make a very small wage there (under $10.00 per hour) and I need to make an extra $100.00 per month in order to upgrade my family's current health insurance plan. The hours and the location of my job are ideal. I have 2 disabled children that need a lot of my time right now to help them with their development issues. With all of the travel involved in driving them to each of their therapy, school, and treatment centers, I am unable to work a second job. So, in conclusion I am looking for ideas for a side business that I could start and do during the 3-4 hours a day that I sit in my store waiting for customers to come in. Keep in mind; this is a convenient dead end job. There is no room for advancement so advertising for the store or bringing in more business is not going to increase my pay or benefits (declined for more $ per hr.). I am looking for ideas for side work to be done while waiting. No Quixtar please!
